Bill Duncan
William Duncan (President)

Bill Duncan is a retired technology entrepreneur and the founder of Advancing New Hampshire Public Education (nee Defending New Hampshire Public Education), dedicated to advocating for public education in the State. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including both a 2014 Business and Industry Association of New Hampshire “Above and Beyond” award for “helping to shape BIA’s goals of improving education standards,” and the National Education Association of New Hampshire’s 2014 Communications Award, saying that “Bill believes that the best advocates for public education are public educators and he works tirelessly to be sure that our voices are heard.


Commissioner Barry
Dr. Virginia Barry

Virginia M. Barry Ph.D. was sworn in as Commissioner of Education on June 1, 2009, and re-appointed on March 20, 2013. Dr. Barry has over 30 years of experience in education as a teacher, leader, tenured university professor, and provost and vice president for academic affairs. Her teaching interests are embedded in the principles of human development and educational leadership. Dr. Barry is deeply committed to collaborative leadership and works closely with the school and business communities to create open communication among stakeholders and create a culture of innovation and excellence. Commissioner Barry is committed to keeping the best interests of the children of New Hampshire at the forefront.


 

Deb Holloway
Deb Holloway

Debra Holloway is an independent education consultant whose clients have included the Center for School Improvement and Learning, Measured Progress, and the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board. She was the Director of Teacher and Leader Quality at the Wyoming Department of Education. She also taught composition at the University of New Hampshire and Great Bay Community College. She has served on a number of boards for non-profit organizations that benefit NH children, including current positions on the Arts In Reach Advisory Board and Program Committee, the Rye Education Foundation Board, and the Little Harbour Charitable Foundation Board.

Dr. Mark Joyce

Dr. Mark Joyce is the executive director of the New Hampshire School Administrator’s Association, a private not-for-profit organization that represents all New Hampshire school system administrators and advocates on behalf of all children and public education. Mark advises businesses and organizations regarding education, leadership, and communication. Mark has taught grades 7-12 as well as at the graduate school level and has served as school principal and as assistant superintendent of schools in New Hampshire. He has also served as a superintendent of schools in both New Hampshire and Maine.


 

Chris Rath
Chris Rath

Christine Rath is the former Superintendent of Schools for the Concord, NH School District.  She served in Concord for 30 years, as middle school principal, high school principal and Assistant Superintendent before becoming superintendent. Chris is currently an adjunct professor in school administration for the University of New Hampshire and Southern New Hampshire University and a teaching lecturer for Plymouth State University. She serves on the Advisory Committee for NHTI and is a member of the Central NH Regional Advisory Board for New Hampshire Charitable Fund.

New Hampshire is in the forefront of implementing systemic reform and true innovation in our public schools. We have talented teachers and courageous leaders undertaking this important work and communities that are beginning to recognize the value of this work for the future of our state.

Jonathan G. Vander Els, Executive Director

Jonathan comes to NHLI with a strong background in education, having spent eleven years in administration, the last eight as the principal in the Sanborn Regional School District in a school recognized nationally for its work as a Professional Learning Communities and in competency education. Jonathan has been actively engaged in a number of the innovative education efforts in the state, including PACE and as a consultant to the New Hampshire Department of Education’s work study practices efforts.
