PreK-12 Generative AI Framework for NH Schools

Dear New Hampshire Educational Leaders,

We are excited to announce the release of the New Hampshire PreK-12 Generative AI Framework, developed by the New Hampshire AI Education Collaborative (NHAIEC). This document serves as a clear and practical roadmap designed to guide New Hampshire district and school leaders, as well as policymakers, on the ethical, effective, and responsible use of Generative AI (GenAI) in K-12 education.

The NHAIEC, a coalition of educational organizations and educators, has dedicated the past year to developing this comprehensive framework to support schools in effectively integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into teaching and learning.

Purpose and Vision: This framework outlines how Generative AI can improve learning, planning, teaching, administration, and communication in schools, providing strategies to harness this technology effectively. It aims to position New Hampshire schools as leaders in innovative, learner-focused education, recognizing the importance of AI in preparing students for a future that values creativity, problem-solving, and digital literacy – where human intelligence is paramount.

Key Areas Addressed in the Framework: The framework provides guidance and insights across a wide range of critical topics, including:

  • Potential Applications of GenAI
  • Understanding AI
  • Importance of Family Engagement
  • Supporting Educators
  • Enhancing Competency-Based Education (CBE)
  • Critical Considerations for Use
  • Implementation Guidance
  • Integrating AI in the Classroom
  • Protecting Learner Data Privacy
  • Environmental Considerations
  • Policy Development

This framework is designed to be a dynamic resource. Recognizing the rapid pace of AI advancements, the NHAIEC has established a process for its ongoing improvement, ensuring it remains relevant and adaptable as AI technologies and educational practices evolve.

We invite all stakeholders – school and district leadership teams, policymakers, educators, and school boards – to review this framework. Click here to download the framework. Your engagement is vital as we work together to harness the potential of AI responsibly and build an educational environment that prepares learners for the future.
